How many years have you been with company or in business?
What company or organization you respect most and why?
Mid-Atlantic Events Magazine. The owner, Jim Cohn, is known leader in the events industry. He strives to help industry professionals to find their right career path. He is passionate about creating unique events. Jim is continually raising the bar in the events industry in Philadelphia.
Which business leader or innovator do you most want to emulate and why?
My dad. He ran his own business for many years. He is the person who inspired me to become an entrepreneur. He’s taught me many valuable lessons about how to run a business. He hasn’t ever been ashamed, or scared, to share with me his mistakes; knowing it would help me to be successful in my own business.
What is the most important business decision you’ve made to date?
When I launched MLE, I knew I needed to stand out from the crowd. I decided to make creative marketing my number one priority. Whether I’m sporting my red headphones at networking events, wearing wings while I DJ, or blogging about unique venues, I’m always thinking of different ways to market my business creatively and effectively.
What is the most important life decision you’ve made to date?
To pursue my dream of traveling the world playing music (and dancing while I do it)!
When and why did you join the IBA?
I just joined IBA in the beginning of the year. I don’t know why I didn’t join sooner! As an advocate of the LGBT community for years, it just seemed to make sense to join the chamber. Since 2012, I’ve hosted numerous LGBT wedding expos with the Rainbow Wedding Network in Philadelphia, Rehoboth Beach, and Washington DC. If you, or someone you know, is engaged to be married the next expo is Sunday, March 5th in Bucks County, PA. Learn more.
Since joining the IBA, what has been the greatest advantage to you and your business being a member of the Chamber?
Meeting like minded people who believe in equal rights, and who like female DJs who wear wings!
What is your proudest moment, honor, or achievement?
I had a full page feature in the DJ Times Magazine that was handed out at the International DJ expo this past August in Atlantic City.
What programs, outreach, or organizations are you involved in that give back to the community?
As a DJ I am asked to donate my time and services to many events. While I can’t do them all, I try my best to donate to the ones closest to my heart. For the past ten years, I’ve been one of the DJs to play for Rubye’s Kids Holiday party. Rubye’s kids holiday party is an event to give deprived children in center city an amazing day filled with gifts, Santa, and music. Over the years, I’ve also donated my services to A Woman’s Place, Pinktober, Hope Chest, New Hope Pride family events, and numerous private events for children with cancer.
What is a little known fact about you?
I was a contestant on Super Sloppy Double Dare. I met Mark Summers in person.
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Cadbury eggs. I would almost say Wine & Cheese Plates – although I don’t really feel that guilty about them.
To date, what has been your most favorite vacation spot?
What is the last book you read?
10% Happier. I’m actually on page 99. I was looking for books on meditation and found this book on Amazon. It’s quite interesting. While I haven’t started meditating yet, it’s already given me some peace of mind.
