How many years have you been with company or in business?
What company or organization you respect most and why?
Hands down – the IBA. Its leadership and board, members and guests, all have witnessed the fruits of our growth over this remarkable 10 year period. This month, we’ll celebrate 10 solid years of building relationships and a stronger community and I can’t think of a better example of an organization that I respect more than the IBA. When you speak to some of the long-standing members who have been around for the 10 year period, you’ll quickly learn how special this chamber is.
Which business leader or innovator do you most want to emulate and why?
Tim Cook. He’s smart, decisive, a great leader and up by 5am every day. 5am wake up calls are not my cup of tea. That early start allows for him to get “his” work done before the daily distractions start. He’s led arguably one of the greatest American growth stories and continued the evolution of their product by always putting something new in our pockets (or on our wrists) that improves our lives and creates the “must have” experiences.
What is the most important business decision you’ve made to date?
Investing: in myself, my team and my community (in no particular order). Education and giving back to those in need are so important to me.
What is the most important life decision you’ve made to date?
Coming out to my family and closest friends about 2.5 years ago. It was the most liberating feeling ever. I learned more about myself AFTER coming out then I did before I broke the news to them. I’ve grown leaps and bounds and feel happier and more confident than ever before.
When and why did you join the IBA?
Since joining the IBA in January 2016, I’ve made so many new friendships and business connections. I was challenged by my Marketing Director Joanna to join a Chamber with the hopes to grow my business in new ways, so I did some research and quickly came across the IBA. I checked out a ConnX event and the rest was history from there. The monthly networking events, the special events, the NGLCC, the holiday parties, etc., there are so many opportunities to network and grow and this just made so much sense as I continue growing within the LGBTQ community.
Since joining the IBA, what has been the greatest advantage to you and your business being a member of the Chamber?
Access to some of the brightest intellectual capital in the Greater Philadelphia region. Monthly networking events. Lifelong friendships. Business growth opportunities. Connecting other members in need. All reasons why I am so proud to be an IBA member.
What is your proudest moment, honor, or achievement?
The emails and hand-written notes I get from clients after meetings thanking me for the care I have in their personal financial situation and the work my team and I have done to help improve their lives, that’s the most rewarding aspect of what I do for a living. Then, I’m often introduced to family members, friends and colleagues of that appreciative client.
What programs, outreach, or organizations are you involved in that give back to the community?
I volunteer twice a year (June and November) at the Food Bank of Delaware with clients and teammates at Orth Financial Group. I’ve done work with Philabundance in the past and would love to help out with more events in the near future. Our team is working on organizing financial literacy programs for teens in the Greater Philadelphia region to help them with budgeting and planning for their financial futures. That was something I’m sure most of us did not have access to growing up.
